Using Your Own Hosting Service
If you want to use your own hosting service with our digital products application, there is a simple yet secure way to do so. This guide will show you how!
Step One
You're going to create a digital product in the exact same way you would any other: start by clicking on "Create a digital product" from the products list page in the app. On the next page, use the product selector to select which product in Shopify you want to link to the digital product in the app. When you're ready, click on save.
Step Two
Next, attach a digital item to your newly created digital product by clicking on "Attach a digital item", and then in the popup, click on "Type" in the upper right hand corner and change that to "File/Website URL". Next, fill out the file name: this is where you'll put your file URL from your hosting service.
Step Three
You can now test your product and the security of using the URL feature by placing a test order. You should see the authenticated order status page giving your customers access to download their files. However, if they copy/paste that link to another user, they'll need the email and the order number to see the download(s) box. They can't just copy/paste the "Open" link either, as that link would produce an error. This, along with using download restrictions and access controls, can be a simple and secure way of sharing your files from your hosting service of choice.
